China-California carbon market joint research project officially launched.

  CCTV News:On the morning of September 29th, 2021, China — The launching ceremony of the California carbon market joint research project was held online, attended by Chinese and American experts such as He Jiankun, director of the National Climate Change Expert Committee of China, and Mary Nickalls, chairman of the California-China Climate Research Institute of the United States. Feng Wei, vice president of the National Innovation and Development Strategy Research Association, attended and delivered a speech on behalf of the project supporters.

  Feng Wei said that the China Innovation Council is very happy to support this pragmatic joint study on the carbon market between China and the United States. Under the leadership of President Zheng Bijian, the China Innovation Council adheres to the concept of China’s peaceful rise, advocates expanding the convergence of interests and building a community of interests among different countries as much as possible, and promotes a community of human destiny based on the convergence of interests. Climate change is related to the future of all countries in the world, and it is one of the major meeting points of interests between China and the United States. We look forward to passing the China — California carbon market joint research project, the two sides can learn from each other, and jointly contribute to meeting the challenge of climate change and achieving the goal of peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon neutrality.

  Director He Jiankun and President Mary Nickalls thanked the China Innovation Association and Bogourui Research Institute for their support to the joint research project, saying that the carbon market is the most important means to promote emission reduction. On the one hand, it can be implemented in enterprises. On the other hand, it is mentioned in the United Nations climate negotiations that the global carbon market will be gradually built, which will become a new international multilateral mechanism. It is expected that the joint research project will provide experience for the operation of the national carbon market in China, and further promote the pragmatic cooperation between China and the United States in the field of climate change by promoting cooperation between California and China.

  Zhang Xiliang, director of Tsinghua University Institute of Energy and Environmental Economics, and Dai Fan, director of California-China Institute of Gas Change, respectively explained the research purpose, research methods and progress of the project, and made plans for future research arrangements. Professor Zhang Xin, chief economist of National Center for Climate Change Strategy Research and International Cooperation, and Jason Graae, director of California Air Resources Committee, respectively gave a brief introduction to the current progress of carbon market construction in China and the development of California carbon market. Xiao Kun, executive director of the Center for Carbon Neutralization and Intelligent Industry Innovation of the China Innovation Council, attended the discussion and introduced the current progress of the China Innovation Council in the field of carbon neutrality and intelligent industry innovation.

  China — The joint research project of California carbon market is jointly supported by China National Innovation and Development Strategy Research Institute and Bogourui Research Institute of the United States. Tsinghua University Institute of Climate Change and Sustainable Development, Tsinghua University Institute of Energy and Environmental Economics, California Institute of Climate Change and UCLA Institute of Climate Change and Environment jointly carry out research, aiming at improving the efficiency and effectiveness of carbon market operation between China and California, promoting the development of global carbon market and promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and the United States in dealing with climate change.
