On December 16, the first Hollywood blockbuster about the Chinese heroic spirit based on Chinese mythology will be released nationwide. Directed by Zhang Yimou and starring Chinese and foreign actors such as Matt Damon, Andy Lau and Jing Tian, the film is an annual heroic fantasy blockbuster jointly produced by China and Hollywood. The film has been planned for a long time and was officially launched at the Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis on March 30, 2015. Most of the scenes were filmed at the Oriental Movie Metropolis.

"The Great Wall" was filmed in a large green screen area at the Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis. In order to meet the needs of the plot, a real-life "Great Wall" was specially built, composed of more than 360 container landscaping and on a grand scale. It is reported that some of the big war scenes of "The Great Wall" were filmed here. During the filming period, the total number of crew members on the Qingdao location reached 1,300 at the peak, including more than 500 extras.

Andrew Smith, president of Pinewood Films in China, said that five years ago Wanda planned to build a state-of-the-art film and television industrial park with Pinewood Studios in the UK, and now it is expected that it will be able to produce Hollywood blockbusters such as "The Great Wall". Chris Dowd, president of the Motion Picture Association of America, and Thomas Tull, president of Legendary Pictures, all expressed great confidence in the future of the Chinese film market and the Oriental Movie Metropolis.

Zhang Yimou’s "The Great Wall" received relevant tax rebate subsidies not long ago. Wanda also hopes to attract film and television practitioners from all over the world to shoot here through a series of preferential policies.

Not long ago, Wanda Group signed contracts with nine companies including Lionsgate, Legendary Pictures and Yingsheng Pictures, and 11 international blockbusters will be shot in the Oriental Movie Metropolis in the next three years. This may change the pattern of Chinese film production.
