In the past few days, Snow Youlong, the national snowmobile and sleigh center like a pure white ribbon, has witnessed a number of China team players making breakthroughs here, constantly turning a new page for snowmobile and sleigh sports in China. On February 11th, the men’s snowmobilers Yan Wengang and Yin Zheng added another wonderful stroke.
That night, the men’s steel snowmobile ushered in the third and fourth rounds of competition. Yan Wengang, 24, won the bronze medal with a time of 4: 01.77, which was the first medal won by the China team in the Winter Olympics snowmobile, sleigh and steel snowmobile. His teammate Yin Zheng also played well, winning the fifth place in 4 minutes 02.13 seconds. German players Grotheer and Juncker won the gold medal and silver medal respectively.
"I have made so much efforts in recent years, hoping to show myself better to everyone." Yan Wengang said after the first two roller skating of the men’s steel snowmobile on the 10th. A day later, he went all out to hit the target. In the most crucial fourth roller skating, Yan Wengang and Yin Zheng scored 1 minute 00.15 seconds and 1 minute 00.28 seconds respectively, ranking the top two among all the players, and also promoted their overall ranking to the final third and fifth place.
According to statistics, the fastest speed in Yan Wengang is close to 130 kilometers per hour. China’s players have grown just as fast in recent years. The Beijing Winter Olympics is only the second time for China team to compete in the Winter Olympics steel snowmobile project. At the PyeongChang Winter Olympics four years ago, the China steel-frame snowmobile team, which had been formed for less than three years, first entered the Winter Olympics, and Geng Wenqiang won the 13th place in the men’s steel-frame snowmobile competition. In the following seasons, Geng Wenqiang successively stood on the podium of international competitions, from the North American Cup champion in Whistler, Canada, to the third place in Laplagne, France, and then to the World Cup champion in Innsbruck, Austria, creating many classic moments of China’s steel-framed snowmobile. Under his leadership, China players such as Yan Wengang, Yin Zheng and Chen Wenhao have greatly improved their technical and tactical level, and the China steel snowmobile project has achieved leap-forward development.
Now, Yan Wengang is on the podium, and Yin Zheng has won the fifth place, once again achieving a breakthrough for the China steel snowmobile project.
Steel snowmobile is a thrilling and exciting sport, which tests the courage and skills of the players. "Now I have enjoyed this feeling of high-speed sliding very much." Yan Wengang said, "This kind of enjoyment is exercised through thousands of slides." Not only the steel snowmobile, but also the China team achieved the full participation in the Winter Olympics for the first time in both sledding and snowmobile, among which the China team boarded the Winter Olympics for the first time. Galloping on the smooth and curved track allows no mistakes. For the players of China team who started late, facing difficulties and challenges, "devotion" and "concentration" are their answers.
For this thrilling sport, Yan Wengang’s feelings are getting deeper and deeper. "I have been skating for 7 years, and now I feel more, it is love." Yan Wengang said.
