The smuggling case of endangered species products worth about 100 million yuan was solved by crazy means and concealment

CCTV News:Recently, anti-smuggling personnel of Xiamen Customs seized rhinoceros horn worth about 100 million yuan and weighing 250 kilograms. At present, there are only five species of rhinoceros left in the world, mainly distributed in Asia and Africa, among which Asian rhinoceros is on the verge of extinction.

A few days ago, Xiamen Customs Anti-smuggling Bureau received a clue that Wang from Wenzhou would go to Fujian to receive a batch of rhinoceros horns smuggled at sea.

Gao Lin, a policeman of Xiamen Customs Anti-smuggling Bureau:Normal ocean-going ships are at least 10,000 tons. The 1,600-ton cargo ship bought by smuggling gangs has changed hands several times, and the ship is in poor condition and has poor weather resistance, so it is easy to capsize in bad weather. In order to gain illegal benefits, smuggling gangs set out from Africa and smuggled directly to China without transit. This method is rare in the history of our case investigation, and it can be said that smuggling gangs are very crazy.

With the support of the marine police department, the suspicious ship was successfully seized and 11 suspects were arrested on the spot. The customs anti-smuggling police searched the ship and finally found that the paint color of an area in the engine room was not consistent with that of other places, which was suspected of repainting. After further inspection, it was confirmed that the smuggling gang had transformed the auxiliary oil warehouse in the engine room into a small warehouse, and 14 black luggage bags were hidden in it, all of which were rhinoceros horns. After counting, the customs anti-smuggling police seized 145 pieces of endangered species rhinoceros horn, including 110 whole horns and 35 pieces, weighing 250 kilograms.

The anti-smuggling police of Xiamen Customs found that this smuggling gang was not only bold, but also had a strong anti-investigation consciousness. The internal division of labor of the gang was very clear, the organization was tight, and the smuggling methods were very hidden.

In order to escape the attack of the customs, the smuggling gangs hired a large number of foreign crew members from Southeast Asia to drive smuggled ships, and registered the ships purchased at home as foreign ships.

Gao Lin, a policeman of Xiamen Customs Anti-smuggling Bureau:The internal division of labor of the gang is very clear and well organized, from organizing the supply of goods in Africa to smuggling at sea, then receiving the goods on the shore, and then selling the stolen goods at home, which is closely linked. Every link has a special person to be responsible and a single point of contact, which has caused great obstacles to our investigation. Moreover, the backbone members of this gang have rich experience in smuggling, and several of them are fugitives who have been chasing for a long time on the Internet. When we arrested one of the backbone members, Qiu Mou, he carried a number of mobile phones and more than 20 calling cards at home and abroad.

At present, the case has been handed over to the judicial department for handling.

According to the anti-smuggling personnel of Xiamen Customs, some African countries implanted chips in the horns of rhinoceroses to protect them and established rhinoceros identity systems. However, the anti-smuggling police of Xiamen Customs found that 70 pieces of rhinoceros horn seized this time contained chip information, which further confirmed that the smuggled goods came from Africa.

Of the rhinoceros horns seized, 110 were slightly damaged, which should be taken directly from the rhinoceros. The other 35 were cut from different rhinoceros horns according to their size and appearance, and about 100 rhinoceros were slaughtered.
